GORAN DRAGIĆ

THE DRAGON

Goran Dragić (born May 6th, 1986) ranks among all-time greats in Slovene sports; a Ljubljana native, a father of two, and an exceptional personality who tries to think positively every day. The outstanding point guard was also the first Slovenian to play in the NBA All-Star Game (2018) and be named as an All-NBA Team member (2014). He secured eternal fame as he captained the Slovenian national team to the throne at the EuroBasket 2017 and took home the tournament MVP award.

Goran Dragić’s influence on Slovenian basketball is unparalleled. He holds the top spot in both the number of appearances, with an impressive 90 games played, and the list of top scorers, with a staggering 1095 points. His dedication and skill have not only brought him personal success but have also elevated the status of Slovenian basketball on the global stage.

The left-handed playmaker played 15 seasons in the NBA between 2008 and 2023. In basketball’s biggest competition, he played for the Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, and Milwaukee Bucks. Gogi’s most tremendous success came as a member of Miami’s roster, reaching the NBA Finals in 2020.

Special mention should also be made of Dragić’s MIP (Most Improved Player of the NBA 2013/14) award as a member of the Phoenix Suns. With his remarkable work ethic, great attitude, and winner’s mentality, he has earned respect among his peers and established himself as a quintessential leader on and off the court.

Goran Dragić, known as ‘The Dragon’ in the USA, is not just a basketball player but also a philanthropist. Since 2014, he has been running his basketball camp, nurturing young talent. In 2020, he took his philanthropy a step further by establishing the Goran Dragić Foundation. This charity organization is dedicated to renovating outdoor basketball courts across Slovenia and providing support to socially underprivileged and economically disadvantaged children and para-athletes. His commitment to giving back to his community is a testament to his character and values.

The term “legendary” is often misused in Slovenian sports. However, Gogi is a true living legend, a legend with his feet firmly on the ground and his head and heart in the right place.
